Meghan Letizia becomes ONU's all-time singles wins leader as Women's Tennis tops Heidelberg 7-2
TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team defeated Heidelberg 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Heidelberg Tennis Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 16-2 overall and are 5-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Student Princes fall to 5-8, 2-4.
Senior Meghan Letizia became ONU's all-time career leader in singles victories, picking up the 81st of her career with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the No. 2 spot.
Letizia also combined with junior Brittany Toney to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, extending her ONU record total to 86 doubles wins.
She is also ONU's all-time overall wins leader with a 167-37 record.
Senior Taryn Stromback also continued her movement up the all-time career wins leader board with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with freshman Kirsten Adamson.
Stromback currently ranks ninth with 60 singles wins, is fourth with 80 doubles wins and is fifth with 140 overall wins.
Senior Elise Smith also won twice on Saturday, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles and an 8-3 win with sophomore Morgan McGlothlin at No. 3 doubles.
Adamson also posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Sunday with a 1 pm match at No. 27-ranked Kenyon.
