MASON -- Freshman Meghan Letizia tied the single season wins record as the Ohio Northern women's tennis team defeated No. 2-seed Otterbein 5-3 to win its second consecutive OAC Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
The Polar Bears are now 26-4 on the season, while the Cardinals finish their season at 18-5.
Northern's title gives them an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament, which will have its field announced on Monday evening.
Letizia now has 49 wins on the season, with 24 coming in singles play and 25 in doubles.
She teamed with junior Carly Olmstead to put the Polar Bears up 2-1 after doubles play with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Sophomore Brittany Miller and freshman Taryn Stromback got ONU on the board with a dominating 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
"Give Otterbein credit," said head coach Scott Wills. "They had a tremendous season and came to play today. This was a very tough win."
Letizia tied the record and clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Both Brittany Miller and Stromback won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
"It is neat to have both teams win OAC Championships," Wills added. "We are one big tennis family. To have both teams do it on this stage means a whole lot more."
