BEREA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team ran its Ohio Athletic Conference regular season winning streak to 25 matches and moved closer to its third consecutive OAC Regular Season title with a 7-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday.
The Polar Bears improve to 21-4 overall and are 7-0 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-9, 4-2.
ONU would clinch at least a share of their third consecutive OAC crown and the No. 1 seed in the 2013 OAC Tournament with a victory in either of its two final matches, either at Capital on Tuesday or at home with Muskingum on Saturday, April 27.
Northern has already clinched a home match in the OAC Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 1 at 3:30 pm.
The Polar Bears are the only remaining undefeated team in OAC play, as Baldwin Wallace and Otterbein each entered Saturday's play with 4-1 league marks.
Sophomore Brittany Miller and freshman Meghan Letizia led ONU with victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively, and wins at Nos. 3 and 2 doubles, respectively.
Miller won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and combined with freshman Taryn Stromback to win 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Letizia won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and joined junior Carly Olmstead to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Christina Corbean rallied to win 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 2 singles, Stromback won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Olmstead won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Northern has won or shared the OAC Regular Season title six times in the previous 10 seasons since the league began awarding a regular season trophy in 2003.
