Women's Tennis sweeps Wooster, Marietta by 9-0 scores

ADA – The Ohio Northern women's tennis team won every set to 9-0 victories over Wooster and Marietta on Saturday at University Courts.
The Polar Bears improved to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Fighting Scots of Wooster fell to 2-11, and the Pioneers of Marietta fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
Sophomore Michelle Tuma went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to lead ONU.
The match against Wooster was the first of the day. In doubles play, junior Christie Gales and sophomore Michelle Tuma defeated Kelsey Jenkins and Rachel Dietz 8-3. Freshmen Brittany Miller and Kristin Cellentani defeated Ashley Stockwell and Lauren Gilliss 8-3.
The paring of sophomores Lauren Rife and Carly Olmstead wrapped up doubles with an 8-1 victory over Emily Linville and Melanie Chin.
The Polar Bears swept the singles matches as well. Tuma defeated Stockwell 6-0, 6-4; Miller defeated Jenkins 6-2, 6-3; and Celletani defeated Boo Flynn 6-2, 6-0.
The winning continued with Sophomore Kelsi Wurm defeating Linville 6-1, 6-2; Gales defeating Dietz 6-0, 6-2; and Rife defeating Chin 6-1, 6-3.
After blanking Wooster the Polar Bears took a short break and did the same thing to Marietta.
Tuma and Gales beat Caitlin Cornell and Cate Gisser 8-1. Olmstead and Rife beat Jamie Taylor and Lauren Bush 8-0, and the duo of senior Kristin Timperman and Wurm beat Natalie Turner and Jessica Penny 8-1 to give ONu a sweep of the doubles matches and an early 3-0 lead.
The Polar Bears won all six singles matches to complete the sweep.
Tuma defeated Cornell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Miller defeated Gisser 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2 and Olmstead beat Kelsey Jeffery 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
Wurm defeated Bush 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, Timperman beat Sarah Snow 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and sophomore Allison Talbert finished the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Turner at No. 6.
The Polar Bears will be in action again on Wednesday at 3 pm as they host Otterbein at University Courts.
