Women's Tennis opens Spring season with victories over Hillsdale, Adrian
LIMA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2012 spring schedule with victories over Hillsdale (Mich.) and Adrian (Mich.) Sunday indoors at the Westwood Tennis & Fitness Center.
The Polar Bears defeated NCAA Division II foe Hillsdale 6-3 and Adrian 7-2 to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Hillsdale falls to 3-13 and Adrian drops to 0-1.
Sophomore Kelsi Wurm and freshman Brittany Miller each won twice in singles play to lead ONU.
Wurm won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Miller won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles on the day.
Sophomore Christie Gales was a perfect 3-0, winning twice in doubles with sophomore Michelle Tuma and winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles against Hillsdale.
Tuma finished the day with a 3-1 mark, splitting her singles matches.
The Polar Bears will return to action Feb. 19 with a 3 pm match at NCAA Division I opponent Dayton indoors at the Five Seasons Racquet Club.
