Gales, Tuma lead Women's Tennis at ITA Regional Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Junior Christie Gales and sophomore Michelle Tuma teamed to make the backdraw finals of the ITA doubles tournament to lead the Ohio Northern women's tennis team at the ITA Regional tournament Friday-Sunday at Kalamazoo College.
The event was unscored and wraps up the fall portion of Northern's season.
Gales and Tuma dropped their first match but then won three straight before falling in the finals by a 9-7 score to Deb Landreau and Carolyn Shetter of Alleghany (Pa.).
Sophomore Kelsi Wurm posted three wins in singles play over Saint Mary's (Ind.), Alleghany (Pa.) and Ohio Wesleyan.
Also notching singles victories on the weekend were Tuma, freshman Brittany Miller, sophomore Emily Mueller and sophomore Sam Stulen.
Sophomore Carly Olmstead and Lauren Rife teamed up to post an 8-1 victory over Kristen Ellefson and Olivia Bourchard of Kalamazoo (Mich.) while Miller and Mueller defeated Lydia Winkler and Abby Younger of Kenyon by an 8-4 score.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on February 11 when they host a doubleheader against Adrian (Mich.) and Hillsdale (Mich.).
