Women's Tennis opens 2011-12 season with victories over Saint Francis (Ind.) and Manchester (Ind.)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2011-12 season with victories over Saint Francis (Ind.) and Manchester (Ind.) Sunday at the Wildwood Racquet Club.
The Polar Bears (2-0) defeated host Saint Francis 7-2 Sunday morning and topped Manchester 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
SFC falls to 1-5, while MC moves to 0-2.
Sophomore Emily Mueller and freshman Brittany Miller each posted 4-0 records on the day to lead Ohio Northern.
Mueller went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, Miller was 2-0 at No. 3 singles and the pair combined to go 2-0 playing matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Junior Christie Gales and sophomores Lauren Rife and each went 3-0 on the day.
ONU won two of the three doubles matches against SFC to go up 2-1, then won five of the six singles matches to put the contest away.
In the afternoon, ONU swept all nine courts against the Spartans, losing only 15 games in singles play, to top the defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champions.
The Polar Bears will return to action Fri.-Sun. at the Oberlin Invitational.
