Women's Tennis posts 9-0 victories over Capital, Wooster

BEXLEY — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team posted a pair of 9-0 victories on Saturday at Capital and over Wooster Saturday.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-5 overall and are 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 0-3 overall (0-2 in OAC) and the Fighting Scots go to 5-5 overall.
The match against Capital was played indoors at the Capital Center Saturday morning and was taken by the Polar Bears 9-0.
No. 1 doubles was won by freshmen Emily Mueller and Lauren Rife 8-5 over freshmen E'Ja Jenkins and Elizabeth McLaughlin.
Sophomore Christie Gales and freshman Kelsi Wurm won No. 2 doubles 8-3 against junior Meredith Wedell and sophomore Collyn Weaver.
The No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Michelle Tuma and Allison Talbert topped freshmen Colleen Hooks and Katie McFarland 8-2.
Tuma won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 against McLaughlin.
No. 2 singles was taken by Mueller 8-4 over junior Michelle Guy.
Gales took No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 over McFarland.
Wurm, Rife and Talbert also won their singles' matches.
The match against Wooster was played outdoors just outside the Capital Center and the Polar Bears took that match 9-0 as well.
Mueller and Rife won their No. 1 doubles 8-1 over juniors Kelsey Jenkins and Ashley Stockwell.
No. 2 doubles was won by Gales and Wurm 8-5 over senior Suzanne Hamby and junior Boo Flynn.
The No. 3 doubles pair of Tuma and freshman Samantha Stulen won 8-3 over sophomores Lauren Gilliss and Cory Smith.
Tuma beat Stockwell in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3.
No. 2 singles was won by Mueller 6-3, 6-1 over Jenkins.
Gales took No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 against Hamby.
Wurm, Rife and Stulen won their singles matches as well.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday when they will host Central State and Marietta at University Courts.
The match against Central State will start at 10 a.m. followed by Marietta which is tentatively set for 1 p.m.
