Bonamer, Ito lead Women's Tennis in OAC opener against John Carroll

ADA — Freshman Ashley Bonamer and senior Mami Ito each picked up a pair of victories, but the Ohio Northern women's tennis team fell short to John Carroll 5-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener Saturday afternoon at University Courts.
The Polar Bears are now 2-6 overall and are 0-1 in OAC action, while the Blue Streaks move to 3-2, 1-0.
ONU won 2 of the 3 double contests to take an early 2-1 lead.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Bonamer and Christie Gales won 8-6 and No. 2 team of Kristen Timperman and Ito won 8-4.
Freshmen Jenna Bittner and Jenny Provost lost a close tie breaking match 9-8 (7-5) at No. 3 doubles.
Bonamer beat Maria Ciccolini 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Ito defeated Athena Pappis 7-5, 6-2 at NNo. 4 singles to give Northern it's only singles wins.
The Polar Bears next match is Thursday at home against Capital at 5 pm.
