Bonamer and Gales win No. 1 Doubles for Women's Tennis in 8-1 loss to Albion (Mich.)

ALBION, Mich. — Freshmen Ashley Bonamer and Christie Gales earned a hard fought 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Ohio Northern women's tennis team fell to Albion (Mich.) 8-1 Saturday afternoon to open up the spring portion of its season.
The Polar Bears are now 1-2 on the year, while the Britons are 1-0.
Bonamer and Gales defeated Anna Gunderson and Shelley Zamler in their doubles competition.
Bonamer also nearly defeated Zamler at No. 1 singles, winning the first set before eventually faling 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Gales fell to Cassie Simmelink 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
Senior Mami Ito and junior Kristen Timperman were also close to a victory at No. 2 doubles, but Simmelink and Sarah Towler defeated the Northern duo 8-6.
The Polar Bears will again be in action on February 28 to kick off their spring break trip. Northern will face Webber International (Fla.) at 11 am and Warner (Fla.) at 4 pm.
