Senior Shelby Starkey named OAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the week of Jan. 16-22.
This marks the first such honor for Starkey in her career.
The accolade comes after she helped the Polar Bears earn victories of 109-80 over Ohio Wesleyan, 161-19 over Bluffton and 123-95 over Baldwin Wallace to improve to 4-4 on the season.
Starkey posted a combined five first-place finishes in the tri-meet at Ohio Wesleyan with Bluffton and the home dual against Baldwin Wallace.
In the tri-meet, she won the 1,000 free in 12:07.01 and was part of the first-place 200 free relay team that finished in a time of 1:47.68. She also posted a second-place finish in the 100 fly in 1:05.27.
Against Baldwin Wallace, Starkey won the 100 back in 1:01.96 and was part of the first-place 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams that posted times of 1:55.06 and 1:45.71, respectively.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday to host Grove City (Pa.) at 1 p.m. in their final regular-season meet. The OAC Championships are scheduled for Feb. 15-18 in Akron.
