Women's Swimming and Diving in fourth place after first day of Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team is in fourth place after the first day of the Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet on Friday night at the Venema Aquatic Center.
The Polar Bears have 156 points after six of 20 events. Calvin is first with 497, Carthage (Wis.) is second with 251 and Albion (Mich.) is third with 195.
Sophomore Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) led Ohio Northern with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard I.M. in 2:19.76. Freshman Meghan Mattison (Easton, Pa.) finished just behind Brown in seventh place in 2:21.77.
Junior Kaitlyn Sullivan (Kettering/Fairmont)was ninth in the 500 free in 5:43.63 and freshman Gracie Smith (Findlay) was 11th in the 50 free in :25.90.
Northern opened the night with a sixth place finish in the 200 free relay, as senior Gabbie Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview), Smith, sophomore Sydney Selinsky (Dover/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and Brown touched in 1:45.51.
Senior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine), Brown, Mattison and Smith ended the evening with a fifth place finish in the 400 medley relay in 4:16.40.
Day two of the meet will begin with the second session on Saturday at 10 am and conclude with the third session on Saturday at 4 pm.
