Schauer, Eversole finish 1-2 in 400 I.M., Starkey wins 100 back to lead Women's Swimming and Diving into second place on Day 2 at OAC Championships

AKRON — Junior Abby Schauer (Beavercreek) and freshman Hannah Eversole (Cincinnati/Mt Notre Dame) finished 1-2 in the 400 I.M. and junior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) won the 100 back to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team into second place on the second day of the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at Ocasek Natatorium.
Schauer took the 400 I.M. in 4:47.56 and Eversole was also All-Conference in the event, finishing second in 4:47.78, just .22 of a second behind Schauer in one of the closest 400 I.M. races in OAC history.
This marks the second consecutive year that Schauer has earned All-OAC honors in the event.
Starkey won the 100 back in 1:00.00 after finishing fourth in 2021 and sixth in 2020.
Freshman Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) had a pair of All-Conference swims, finishing second in the 100 breast in 1:07.57 and second in the 100 fly in :58.57. She has earned All-Conference honors in all three of her individual races at this year's championships.
Senior Megan Lubinski (Loveland/Brighton) was third in the 200 free in 1:57.16 to earn All-OAC kudos.
Starkey, Brown, senior Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton) and Lubinski had an All-Conference effort the 200 medley relay to begin the evening, placing second in 1:49.19.
The Polar Bears are in second place out of five teams after 13 of 20 events with 480 points.
John Carroll leads with 564 points, Mount Union is third with 416, Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 280 and Wilmington is fifth with 110.
Brown's three All-OAC swims accounted for an impressive 42 team points on the evening.
The top three finishers in individual events and top two finishers in relays earn All-Conference honors.
The third and final day of the Championships will get underway on Saturday with prelims at 10 am.
