Lauren Halle sets another school record, leads Women's Swimming & Diving on Day 2 of OAC Championships

AKRON — Sophomore Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) broke her own school record in the 400 I.M. to lead the Ohio Northern women on the second day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Halle finished second in a school-record 4:35.78 in the 400 I.M. to earn All-Conference honors for the second consecutive year and broke her own record of 4:36.57 set last season.
Freshman Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) also earned All-OAC kudos in the event, finishing third right behind Halle in 4:38.70.
The top three finishers in each individual event and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-Conference honors.
Senior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) earned All-Conference accolades in the 100 breast for second consecutive season. She was second in 1:06.33 this season after finishing third as a junior in 2017.
Junior Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) earned All-OAC honors in the 100 back for the second straight year, touching in second place in :58.23. She also was second as a sophomore in 2017.
Sophomore Libby Sartschev (Parma/Normandy) finished second and was named All-OAC in the 3-meter diving for the second straight season, scoring 298.80 points.
Watson, Veon, sophomore Kyley Stuart (Ada) and Taylor and earned All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.30.
The Polar Bears are gunning for their eighth OAC Championships crown under 14th-year head coach Peggy Ewald.
Ohio Northern holds a 367.5-367 lead over Baldwin Wallace for third place in the team standings through 13 of the 20 events.
JCU is in first place with 593.5 points, Mount Union is second with 434 points and Wilmington is fifth with 186 points.
The third and final day of the Championships is Saturday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 5:30 pm.
