Two records fall on the first day of 2018 Men's OAC Swimming & Diving Championships

AKRON — Ohio Northern's Nolan Huey broke the OAC record in the 200 I.M. to highlight the first day of the 2018 Men's Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Huey touched in 1:51.10, breaking the OAC record of 1:51.63, set in 2013 by Ohio Northern's Jordan Breitigam. His time also surpasses the NCAA "B" Cut of 1:51.98.
John Carroll broke the OAC record in the 400 medley relay in 3:22.94, two-hundreths of a second better than the 3:22.96 set by Ohio Northern in 2013.
Cole Ellsworth of Mount Union won his second consecutive OAC title in the 500 free, touching first in 4:37.71.
John Carroll's Matthew Ramsey also repeated as OAC Champion, winning the 50 free in :20.92 to defend his 2017 crown.
Ohio Northern started the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:23.41, just .08 of a second off the OAC record.
The top three finishers in each individual event and the top two relay teams earn All-Conference honors.
John Carroll holds a slim 219-181 lead over Mount Union through five of the 20 events with Ohio Northern third with 178 points, Wilmington fourth with 101 points and Baldwin Wallace fifth with 85 points.
Day two of the three-day championships is Friday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6 pm and the final day is Saturday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 5:30 pm.
