ADA — Freshman Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) led the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team as it finished seventh of 11 teams at the annual Wooster Invitational on Saturday at the Timken Natatorium.
The Polar Bears finished seventh with 647 team points, while Case Western Reserve won the meet with 1,984.5 points, Wooster was second with 1,370 points, and Gannon (Pa.) rounded out the top-3 with 1,237 points.
Taylor led the charge for ONU as she finished fifth in the 200 back in 2:09.81.
Senior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) posted a ninth place finish in the 100 free in :53.46, while sophomore Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) recorded a ninth place finish in the 200 fly in 2:13.26.
"On the women's side we have some clear holes in the lineup," said head coach Peggy Ewald. "This meet defined those. But there is a willingness amongst swimmers to move into different events to help fill the lineup better. That will allow us to try some different approaches in the second half of the season. Diving has really improved for us this season. It's exciting to see such improvement at this juncture for all the divers, it will help both our teams to have success in those two events as we look down the road to OAC Championships."
The Polar Bears return to action after the new year, as they travel to Colorado College for a dual meet with the Tigers on January 10 at 3:45 (PST).
