ADA — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team defeated Defiance 179-24, but fell to NCAA Division II foes Hillsdale (Mich.) 135-79 and Findlay 132-95 Friday evening in a quad-match at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears are now 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Hillsdale (Mich.) defeated the Polar Bears in nine of 11 events, while Findlay claimed eight of the 13 in which they competed.
The Polar Bears swept Defiance in the meet.
Ohio Northern defeated Hillsdale in the 100 free and 200 back, Findlay in the 50 free, 200 IM, 100 free, and the 200 free relay.
Sophomore Jill Chapman led ONU as she won the 100 free in :54.11.
ONU dominated the 100 free claiming the first three spots. First place went to Chapman, followed by sophomore Emily Uhrin in :56.26 and freshman Sydney Veon in :56.76.
Allison Lohnes posted second place finishes in the 200 IM and 200 back, as well as the 200 free relay with Uhrin, freshman Hailee Sautter and junior Abigail Barlage.
"Going into this meet we knew we needed full commitment of each swimmer to be able to narrow the gap in front of the ladies and push beyond on the men's. We did that with great attitudes and effort," said head coach Peggy Ewald. "Swimming against D II teams presents a challenge, but we didn't back down. We swam well against strong teams. I'm looking forward to putting more work in over the three weeks remaining before our big mid-season meet."
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they host Wittenberg and Oberlin in a tri-match at the ONU Sports Center Natatorium.
