ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team attacked the Ohio Wesleyan goal all game long but was held off the scoreboard in a 0-0 draw in double overtime on Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (4-3-2 overall) out-shot the Battling Bishops (5-1-3 overall) by a 34-1 margin and had a 15-2 edge in corner kicks in what was a dominant showing outside of the scoring column.
ONU finished with 17 shots on goal, but the defense played by the Bishops and goalkeepers Taylor Floyd and Abby Markley proved stout, as they combined to make 14 saves.
Freshman Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) and sophomore Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) led Northern in shots with six each, and they combined for seven shots on goal.
Junior Lauren Naso (Grosse Ile, Mich.) added five shots, four of which were on target, and freshmen Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville) and Alexa Clampitt (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica) and sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll) added three shots each.
Senior goalkeeper Kristy Catrine tallied one save over all 110 minutes in the shutout for ONU.
Wednesday's game marked the fifth shutout for Northern this season.
The Polar Bears will return to the field at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the start of Ohio Athletic Conference play at Marietta.
