ADA — Seniors Siena Ward (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) and Abigail Mathews (Liberty Township/Lakota East) each recorded a goal as the Ohio Northern women's soccer team defeated Heidelberg 2-0 Thursday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears remain undefeated and in first place of the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 6-0-0 record (6-0-0 overall), while the Student Princes fall to 0-4-2, 0-4-2.
ONU struck first with Ward's early goal assisted by a long pass from midfield by freshman Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) with 21:17 remaining in the first half.
Matthews sealed the game with a penalty kick goal in the 76th minute, after Ward drew the penalty within the box.
Junior Kristy Catrine (Springboro) recorded two saves in her sixth consecutive shutout in goal. She ran her scoreless streak to 533 minutes this season and 536 minutes in her career.
ONU out-shot HU 22-6 and had a 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Monday with a 7 pm contest against Capital in a battle of league unbeatens at Kerscher Stadium.
