BEREA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team breezed past Baldwin Wallace at George Finnie Stadium Wednesday. The Polar Bears downed the Yellow Jackets 7-1 to improve to 8-2-2 on the season and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Six different ONU players boasted a goal. Siena Ward (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) led the way with a pair of goals, while Megan Breier (Plainfield, Ill./North), Sydney Leshnak (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame), Emma Barney (Oak Harbor), Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) and Hailey McGuire (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) all found the back of the net once.
Breier opened the scoring, registering an unassisted goal in the 11th minute. Ward netted her first in the 24th minute off a feed from Rose Nienaber (Cincinnati/Oak Hills).
Leshnak made it 3-0 with a score, off a feed from Jerzy Zito (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), in the 41st minute. Barney capped an impressive first half with an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute.
Fuller logged her team-leading 11th score of 2019, as she took it in unassisted in the 47th minute. Ward recorded her second goal of the game, this time unassisted, in the 67th minute. McGuire put an exclamation point on the win with a goal, assisted on by Abigail Mathews (Liberty Township/Lakota East), in the 85th minute.
The Polar Bears had 26 shots in all, 15 on target, while the Yellow Jackets had just two, one of which was on frame.
ONU remains on the road and travels to Muskingum Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
