TIFFIN - Sophomore forward Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) registered her conference-best 14th goal Wednesday evening, guiding the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 1-0 league victory over the Heidelberg Student Princes at Hoernemann Stadium in Tiffin, Ohio.
With their 12th straight victory, the Polar Bears climb to 12-2-0 overall and to 6-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season. Meanwhile, the Student Princes drop to 6-9-1 and 1-5-0 against the conference loop.
Fuller would score the lone goal just four minutes into the match, netting her sixth game-winning goal in 2018. The sophomore would collect a loose ball inside the six-yard goal box following a Ohio Northern corner kick. The bouncing ball would find its way to Fuller, who then tapped in the decisive goal.
Following the opening brace, both sides would remain scoreless in the conference affair.
Despite the tight scoreline, the Polar Bears commanded the game from the opening kickoff. Northern would outshoot the Student Princes 31-0, which included a 16-0 shots on goal advantage. ONU would also register nine corner kick opportunities and blanked Heidelberg in the statistical category.
Senior midfielder Sarah Puntel (Strongsville) would pace the Polar Bears with six shots in the contest. Fuller would be next in line with five opportunities.
In net, junior Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) went uncontested to register her 12th win and 10th clean sheet of the season. The junior netminder now has 30 career shutouts in goal, which ties her for second place all-time at Ohio Northern.
Ohio Northern will continue its OAC Regular Season title pursuit this Saturday, October 20 as the Polar Bears travel to Columbus, Ohio for a battle with Capital. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
