MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a convincing 4-0 victory at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Marietta Field.
The Polar Bears (7-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 OAC) scored three times in a 14-minute span and cruised from there to their 18th consecutive OAc regular season victory.
The Pioneers fall to 2-5-2, 0-1-0.
Ohio Northern dominated from the onset, out-shooting MC 31-0 and has now posted seven consecutive shutouts this season.
Freshman Tara Morris (Monroe) got the Polar Bears on the board in the 36th minute with a goal off an assist from junior Haley Moses (Mason).
Sophomore Emma Barney made it 2-0 before intermission with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute.
Sophomore Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) scored 4:14 into the second half off an assist from Barney, making it 3-0.
Fuller has now scored a goal in six consecutive matches, the second-longest streak in school history, and leads the OAC with nine goals this season.
Sophomore Anne Major (Okemos, Mich.) completed the scoring in the 78th minute when she tapped in a nifty cross from freshman Audrey Spirk (Bellbrook) to make it 4-0.
Junior Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) posted her seventh straight shutout this season and the 27th shutout of her career in goal.
"We did a nice job of controlling play from the start," ONU head coach Mark Batman said. "We had some good chances early on and kept the pressure on the entire match."
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday with a 7 pm match against Baldwin Wallace at Kerscher Stadium.
