ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer coaching staff has been named the Division III Great Lakes Region Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
In his 14th season at the helm of the Ohio Northern women's soccer program, head coach Mark Batman along with assistant coaches Jess Kodiak and Kassie Gross led the Polar Bears to a 20-2-2 record and the programs fourth NCAA Tournament berth in school history.
Northern advanced to the Elite 8 round of the 2017 NCAA Div. III Tournament, completing the deepest run Ohio Northern has made in the tournament in school history.
"This really is just a reflection of this team," said head coach Mark Batman. "The is a reflection of how hard our team worked and what they were able to accomplish this season."
The ONU coaching staff is now on the ballot for the United Soccer Coaches National Coaching Staff of the Year, along with the other seven Div. III Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year and any teams staff that advanced to the semifinals of their NCAA Championship.
The Polar Bears bowed out of the NCAA Tournament in the quarterfinal round where they dropped a tight 1-0 decision to No. 5-ranked and undefeated Hardin-Simmons (Tex.).
