ADA — Four Polar Bears scored goals as the No. 15-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team defeated Wilmington 4-0 on Saturday evening at Townsend Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 13-1-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 5-8-2, 1-4-1.
Senior Mary Kate Munz (Gahanna/Lincoln) and freshmen Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township), Courtney Favazzo (Mayfield Heights/Mayfield) and Megan Breier (Plainfield, Ill./North) all scored in the contest for ONU.
Breier and sophomore Haley Moses (Mason) added assists in the victory.
Northern broke a 0-0 tied in the 27th minute after Breier found Favazzo for her second goal of the season to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
Moses and Munz teamed up 14 seconds later as Munz found the back of the net to extend the Polar Bear lead to 2-0.
In the 38th minute Breier was able to score her second goal of the season and help Northern take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
Fuller's fifth goal of the season would seal the victory in the 76th minute to help lift ONU to its second straight shutout.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) posted her league-leading ninth shutout of the season in the victory.
The Polar Bears outshot the Quakers 19-3 and edged WC in the corner kick battle by a 2-1 margin.
Northern returns to action on Saturday afternoon as it hosts Muskingum at Kerscher Stadium at 1 pm and celebrates Senior Day during its annual Friends of Jaclyn game.
