ADA — Sophomore Rose Nienaber (Cincinnatti/Oak Hills) and senior Anna Niemeyer (Loveland) each scored as the No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team defeated Otterbein 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears move to 9-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals fall to 7-2-1, 0-2-0.
Northern has now won seven straight contests and posted its seventh shutout of the season.
Nienaber opened the scoring for the Polar Bears in the first half after sophomore Hannah Martin (Mason/Mount Notre Dame) played a long ball that found Nienaber in the 27th minute to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
Otterbein threatened to tie the contest in the 33rd minute as a shot from the Cardinals hit the crossbar and allowed Northern to hold on to a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Halfway through the second period, freshman Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) played a perfect ball over the OU defense and found Niemeyer who capitalized on a breakaway to push the lead to 2-0 and seal the victory in the 76th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) earned the victory in the net for ONU, posting three saves.
The sophomore improves her record to 9-1-1 on the year and earned her sixth shutout of the year.
Northern outshot Otterbein by a 15-6 mark, and won the corner kick battle 6-4.
The Polar Bears will look to continue their winning ways on Oct. 7 as they travel to Capital to take on the Crusaders at 1 pm.
