ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team posted its fourth straight shutout victory at Thomas More (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Saints 3-0.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-1-1 with the victory, while the Saints drop to 4-2-1.
Sophomores Rose Nienaber (Cincinnatti/Oak Hills) and Haley Moses (Mason) and senior Anna Niemeyer (Loveland) each scored to lead ONU offensively, and senior Mary Kate Munz (Gahanna/Lincoln) recorded an assist.
A quick start allowed Northern to take an early advantage as Moses found the back of the net to give ONU a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the contest.
After a defensive battle ensued, the Polar Bears held a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Nienaber scored her first goal of the afternoon in the 52nd minute, finding the back of the net to push the lead to 2-0.
Niemeyer would slam the door in the 68th minute after Munz fed her a ball to set up the game-sealing goal and push the lead to 3-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) led the way defensively, recording two saves and posting her sixth consecutive shutout.
The Ohio Northern defense has not allowed a goal in the last 618:36 minutes.
Northern outshot the Saints by a 21-5 mark, and won the corner kick battle by a 6-3 margin.
ONU will return to action Sunday afternoon as it completes its 2-day trip in Kentucky with a matchup at Tranylvania (Ky.) at 1 pm.
