ADA — Senior Anna Niemeyer (Loveland) scored two goals to help lift the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Adrian (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at Docking Stadium.
The Polar Bears even their record at 1-1-0 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-1-0 overall.
AC took the early advantage in the 32nd minute after a header found the back of the net to push the lead to 1-0.
A header from senior Abbey Oswald (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) in the final seconds of the first half would miss wide right and Adrian would take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Niemeyer's first goal of the contest came in the 75th minute as she played a ball past the keeper from inside the box to knot things at 1-1.
Regulation would not be enough as the contest went into overtime.
In the 94th minute, freshman Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) found Niemeyer in the box and helped set up the game-winning goal as the senior found the back of the net to give Northern its first victory of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) earned the victory in the net for Northern and improved to 1-0 on the year.
Northern outshot Adrian by a 16-6 margin and was edged in the corner kick battle 5-4.
ONU will return to action Friday, Sept. 8 as it opens the home portion of its schedule and hosts DePauw (Ind.) at Kerscher Stadium at 6 pm.
