ALLIANCE — Junior Missy Ward scored with 5:12 left to lift the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Mount Union on Saturday night at Mount Union Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 7-5-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Purple Raiders fall to 5-7-0, 1-2-0.
Ward scored on a shot just inside the penalty box off an assist from Shelby Stephens to break a 1-1 tie.
Junior Michaela Gutierrez scored just 1:52 into the match to give Ohio Northern a quick lead.
Mount Union got the equalizer in the match with a goal by Kelsey Malenic with 11:40 left in the opening half.
The Purple Radiers had a chance to score in the final seconds, but the Polar Bear defense cleared a loose ball inside the box to hold on for the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot Mount Union 15-11. Senior Emily Brodict had six saves in goal to lead ONU.
The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday evening at Otterbein at 7:30 pm in Westerville.
