TIFFIN — Sophomore Alaura Mikesell scored in the 22nd minute and sophomore Missy Ward added an insurance goal in the 71st minute to lift Ohio Northern past Heidelberg in women's soccer action Tuesday night at Hoernemann Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-6-1 overall and are 4-2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes fall to 3-12-1, 0-6-0.
Northern got on the board in the first half when Mikesell finished in the box after a turnover with 21:12 gone in the match. Senior Kristina Klusek had the assist.
Ward gave the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead when she scored off an assist from junior Hannah Moloney with 19:23 left in the match.
Heidelberg pulled within 2-1 when Kristen Keenan scored with 8:49 left in the match.
But Ohio Northern would allow HU only one shot on goal the rest of the way to hold on for the victory.
Northern out-shot HU 20-4 in shots and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at 1 pm against Muskingum at Kerscher Stadium.
