ADA -- The Ohio Northern women's soccer team was defeated by Transylvania (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon by a 1-0 score at the ONU Soccer Field.
ONU is now 4-5-1 on the year, while Transy moves to 5-2-1.
Transy didn't wait long to get on the board when Kelsey Meece buried the ball in the net in the 4th minute off an assist from Alyssa Kruse.
Transylvania had another opportunity just a few moments later to go up 2-0, but missed just wide.
ONU would fire seven shots in the first half, but could not find the back of the net.
Northern kept the aggression up in the second half and had a chance to score with 10 minutes left.
Freshman Shelby Stephens fired a shot from outside the box and hit the crossbar.
Senior Sami Atkinson was right there for the rebound, but her shot was blocked by the Pioneer defense.
Sophomore Emily Brodict (3-4-1) recorded two saves in goal for the Polar Bears.
Jerrica Scovel (5-2-1) was between the poles for Transylvania and picked up three saves.
ONU took 12 shots, while Transy took six.
Northern also had corner kicks, with the Pioneers taking four.
Ohio Northern will open up OAC play on Saturday (Oct. 5) at Mount Union at 1 pm.
