PITTSBURGH (Pa.) -- The Ohio Northern women's soccer teamed picked up a tough 1-1 tie with No. 5-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at the DoubleTree Tartan Cup.
The Polar Bears are now 1-1-1 on the season, while the Tartans stand at 1-0-1.
ONU struck just 4:25 into the game, when senior Sandy Plunkett dribbled into the box drawing the goalkeeper out.
Plunkett then sent a pass to junior Kristina Klusek, who put the ball in the net for a 1-0 Northern lead.
Carnegie Mellon answered back in the 49th minute when Amanda So found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
The Polar Bears had two corner kicks near the end of regulation, but came up empty.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Brodict made a save from point blank range in the second overtime to help preserve the tie.
Brodict (0-0-1) made five saves on the afternoon, while Tartan goalie Anna Albi did not record a save.
CMU outshot the Polar Bears 12-2, including a 6-1 advantage on goal.
Ohio Northern returns to action on Sunday, when it faces Allegheny (Pa.) in its second match of the DoubleTree Tartan Cup at 11 am.
