ADA--The Ohio Northern women's soccer won their first OAC Tournament Championship by defeating John Carroll by a 2-0 score on Saturday afternoon at ONU Soccer Field.
The fourth seeded Polar Bears are now 13-4-4 for the year as John Carroll drops to 10-7-4 overall.
The win also gives the Polar Bears an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Both teams had opportunities to get on the board early on, but could not take advantage.
Northern struck first at the 29:56 mark, when freshman Hannah Moloney shot the ball off the post and bounced into the net for an unassisted goal.
About mid way through the second half, John Carroll committed a foul just outside the box setting up a junior Lauren Brown free kick.
Brown placed the kick perfectly as senior Tara Tokar sent the ball into the goal.
The Blue Streaks could not answer back as the ONU defense limited them to one shot in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Waehner (13-3-4) picked up one save on the afternoon.
"I give all the credit to the girls," said head coach Mark Batman. "They worked really hard this week playing against three great teams and I'm proud of them. This is the first time we have won this game and I have to give all the credit to the girls."
Ohio Northern doubled the John Carroll shots at 12-6.
Corners leaned towards the Polar Bears as well at 7-1.
The Polar Bears will find out when and where they play next on Monday when the field is announced in the NCAA Tournament Selection Show at 1:30 pm.
