ADA — A combined six points by sophomore Sami Atkinson and freshman Sandra Thorarensen helped the No. 25 Polar Bear women's soccer squad to a 4-0 OAC over Muskingum, Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.
Both Atkinson and Thorarensen posted a goal and an assist in the match.
Northern improves to 5-1-2 overall with a 1-0 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Muskies fall to 2-6-0 overall with a 0-1 league record.
ONU got started on scoring early, with an Atkinson goal in the fourth minute. She finished off a Kristina Klusek shot deflection for her fifth goal of the season. Klusek earned her second assist of the season off the goal.
In the 20th minute, senior Alyssa Merrick linked a Thorarensen pass to the back of the net to give ONU the 2-0 advantage. It was Merrick's third goal of the season and Thorarensen's first assist.
The Polar Bears would score one more time in the first half when sophomore Lauren Brown knocked an Atkinson past into the upper right corner of the goal for the 3-0 lead.
Thorarensen would notch her first collegiate goal with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.
Ohio Northern dominated the shots category, taking aim 39 time compared to the Muskies' three shots.
The Polar Bears are home again Wednesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference bout against Mount St. Joseph.
