Tokar named All-American by NSCAA; one of three players named All-Region
ADA — Junior midfielder Tara Tokar has been named 2011 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Third Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
This is the program's second consecutive All-American honor, as Chelsea Albert earned women's soccer's first-ever All-America award last season.
Tokar started in all 21 games for the Polar Bears this past season and is the only current player to have started in every game in her collegiate career.
She recorded three goals and two assists for eight points, ranking sixth on the team in offense. She was also named First Team All-Great Lakes.
Joining Tokar as NSCAA All-Region are sophomore Sami Atkinson and senior Chelsea Chadwick.
Atkinson, a forward, was named First Team All-Great Lakes and led the team and in the OAC with 30 points on 12 goals and six assists.
Chadwick, the reigning OAC Defender of the Year, was named Second Team All-Region. She started in all of her 20 game appearances and also recorded one goal and one assist this year.
Northern finished the season 16-3-2 overall and 9-0 in the OAC to earn the Regular Season title. The team also hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament and notched its first national postseason win in the opening round.
