Four Polar Bears named All-OAC in Wrestling for 2024; Reed, Myers First Team selections

ADA — Junior Jacob Reed (Lancaster) and junior Adam Myers (Springfield/STEM Academy) were named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, highlighting a list of four Ohio Northern student-athletes who were named All-OAC for the 2023-24 season in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
Earning Second Team accolades were sophomore Colton Spurgeon (Mount Vernon) and junior Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterson).
Reed also won the Most Falls/Least Amount of Time Award with four falls in 6:49 against OAC opponents.
Reed, a 2022 and 2023 All-American at 141 pounds, is now a three-time All-OAC honoree, earning First Team All-OAC honors in 2023 and 2024 and Second Team accolades in 2022.
He was the the John Summa Wrestler of the Year in the OAC as a sophomore in 2023.
Currently ranked No. 1 nationally at 141 pounds, Reed is a perfect 22-0 on the season, including 7-0 in the OAC, with 10 pins, one technical fall and 1 major decision. He is looking to become just the fourth wrestler in program history to complete an undefeated season.
In two seasons at ONU, Reed is 101-5 overall for a .953 winning percentage.
A first time All-OAC honoree, Myers is in his third year at 174 pounds. This season, he has a record of 25-11, including 4-2 in the OAC, with three pins, seven technical falls, and four major decisions.
In three seasons a ONU thus far, he has a career record of 66-33.
Spurgeon, a starter at 149 pounds, is 21-15 this season with eight pins, two technical falls, and two major decisions.
In two seasons at ONU, Spurgeon is 32-21 overall with 15 falls, two technical falls and three major decisions.
Layman, a three-year starter at 184 pounds, is now a two-time All-OAC honoree after earning the accolade as a junior. He owns a 31-9 record this season, including 6-1 in OAC, along with six pins, four technical falls, and one major decision.
In three seasons at ONU, Layman is 91-41 overall for an .689 winning percentage and has 22 falls, seven technical falls and eight major decisions.
The Polar Bears went 17-7 in dual meets this season and were second in the OAC regular-season standings with a 6-1 record.
Ranked No. 12 nationally in the NWCA Tournament Team Poll and No. 23 in the NWCA Dual Poll, Ohio Northern returns to action on Friday and Saturday when its host the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships at the ONU Sports Center.
