Hardrick, Reed win titles as Wrestling opens 2022-23 season with third place finish at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE — Senior Jordan Hardrick (Dayton/Wayne) and sophomore All-American Jacob Reed (Lancaster) each won weight class titles to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a fourth place finish at the season-opening Mount Union Invitational on Saturday at the Peterson Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears (0-0 overall) finished with 129.5 points in the 9-team tournament. NCAA Division II Gannon (Pa.) won the team title with 158 points, Mount Union was second with 143.5 and Brockport State (N.Y.) was third with 137.
Hardrick went 3-0 with a major decision to win the 165-pound weight class, while No. 2-ranked Reed was 4-0 with four falls to blow through the 141-pound weight class field.
Senior Logan Painter (Marysville/Early College) and sophomore Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.) placed second at heavyweight and 184, respectively.
Sophomore Jadon Brownlee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) placed fifth at heavyweight.
Sophomore Dylan Le (Powell/Dublin Scioto) placed third at 133 pounds, while freshman Gabe Hansen (Richwood/North Union) placed sixth in the weight class.
Senior Chase Sumner (Ada) placed sixth at 149.
Sophomore Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greenview) placed seventh at 157 and freshman Jackson Hawker (Perrysburg) placed seventh at 174.
Sophomore Jimmy Paletta (Brookpark/Benedictine) placed eighth at 197.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday at the Adrian (Mich.) Duals.
