Seth Transue wins the 133-pound title, Cash Thompson places second at 197 to lead Ohio Northern at the NCAA III Central Region Wrestling Championships

ADRIAN, Mich. — Senior Seth Transue (Plain City/Jerome) won the 133-pound weight class and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler to lead Ohio Northern at the 2020 NCAA Division III Central Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Merrilat Center.
Transue and junior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) clinched spots in the NCAA III Championships March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by virtue of their top-three finishes.
The top three placers in each of the 10 weight classes qualified for the NCAA III Championships.
Third-seeded Transue won 3-1 in sudden victory over top-seeded Charles Nash of Baldwin Wallace in the finals.
On Saturday morning, he rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win 7-6 over second-seeded David Massey of Mount Union in the semis.
Transue finished the tournament a perfect 4-0 and will head to the NCAA Championships with an impressive 36-2 record.
Thompson, who was seeded third at 197 pounds, advanced to the finals with a 5-4 victory over second-seeded Devon Pingel of Adrian in the semifinals.
He then fell in the finals 8-0 to top-seeded Zeckary Lehman of Baldwin Wallace.
Thompson was 3-1 on the weekend and is 39-8 overall.
in all, ONU had wrestlers place in eight of the 10 weight classes.
Senior Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) placed fourth at 141 pounds with a 3-2 record and and freshmen Chase Sumner (Ada) was fourth at 149 pounds with a 4-2 mark.
Both men finished better than their seeded as Andrews was seeded fifth and Sumner was seeded sixth.
Andrews will finish his season with a 34-14 record. He ends his career with a 96-59 mark, which ranks him tied for 16th all-time in ONU history.
Sumner ends his rookie campaign with a 37-6 record. His 37 wins are the second-most by a freshman in ONU history.
Junior Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) placed fifth at 157 pounds with a 4-2 mark. He will enter his senior campaign with a 78-50 career mark.
This season, Caprella set an ONU junior record with a 43-10 record. The 43 wins ties him for the second-most in ONU history.
Sophomores Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) and Connor Kwiat (Bloomville/Tiffin Calvert) placed sixth at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively.
Hardrick was 4-3 on the weekend and ends his season with a 24-11 record. Kwiat was 3-3 on the weekend and 27-18 on the season.
Freshman Logan Painter went 3-2 and placed seventh at Heavyweight. He finished his rookie campaign with an 11-25 record while wrestling up a weight class most of the year.
On Friday, freshman Camden Spears (Plainfield, Ind.) went 1-2 at 125 and freshman Sam Medlen (Westfield, Ind.) was 0-2 at 184 pounds.
Ohio Northern finished fourth of 18 teams with 107 points.
