Wrestling goes 1-1 on Day 2 of Lycoming (Pa.) Duals with 36-12 victory over Waynesburg (Pa.), 24-18 loss to Lycoming (Pa.)

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Ohio Northern wrestling team posted a 1-1 record to finish in 14th place at the Lycoming (Pa.) National Duals on Saturday morning at the Lamade Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (6-9 overall) defeated Waynesburg (Pa.) 36-12 Saturday morning and fell to tournament host Lycoming (Pa.) 24-18 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Alex Bair (Centerville) led Ohio Northern with a 4-0 record on the weekend, posting a fall, a tech fall, a major decision and a decision to improve to 17-10 on the season. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team at 184 pounds.
After forfeits at 125, 133 and 141, the match with Waynesburg got underway at 149 with freshman Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) and senior Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) each picking up pins to give the Polar Bears an 18-12 lead over the Yellow Jackets (7-7).
Senior Seth Meyer (Defiance) then got a takedown with seven seconds left in overtime to win 4-2 at 165 and put ONU up 21-12.
Junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) then got a pin in 4:52 at 174 pounds to extend the lead to 27-12.
Freshman Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) clinched the match for the Polar Bears with a 4-0 shutout at 184.
Junior Austin Windle (Ada) won by decision at 197 by a 9-2 count and sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) won by decision 6-5 at heavyweight to make the final 36-12.
Against the Warriors (10-6), ONU fell behind 21-0 after the first four bouts with two forfeits and two tech falls.
Nelson got a takedown in the final 30 seconds to win 3-1 at 157 pounds and Meyer followed with a 7-2 decision at 165 to make it 21-6.
Davidson then made it three in a row with a 2-1 decision over No. 7-ranked Brandon Conrad.
Bair got ONU within 21-15 with a pin at 1:14 of his bout at 184 pounds.
Windle made it 21-18 with a 3-2 decision at 197.
Barcaskey gave it a good effort at Heavyweight, but was edged by No. 8-ranked Garrett Wesneski as the Warriors held on for the win.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday with an Ohio Athletic Conference dual at John Carroll.
