ADA — Sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) won the individual title at heavyweight to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a second-place finish at the 37th annual ONU Invitational on Saturday.
The Polar Bears had a strong outing, finishing the tournament with 11 wrestlers placers in eight of the 10 weight classes.
The tournament featured 11 teams from NCAA II, III, and NAIA schools. The Polar Bears finished as tournament runner-up with 140 points, Tiffin was the tournament Champion with 151 points, and the third-place team was Campbellsville (Ky.) with 136.5 points.
Barcaskey finished with a 5-0 record with three pins to win the Heavyweight title and improve to 12-2 on the season.
Ohio Northern had two wrestlers finish second. in their respective weight classes.
Sophomore Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) placed in the 125-pound weight class with a record of 2-1 and junior Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) placed second in the 157-pound weight class with a record of 3-1.
Placing third for the Polar Bears was senior Alex Bair (Centerville) with a 6-1 record at 197 pounds.
Junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) finished fourth in the 184-pound weight class with a 3-2 record.
Placing fifth for Ohio Northern was freshman Schuyler Caprella (Allen East) with a 4-2 record in the 149-pound weight class, senior Seth Meyer (Defiance) at 165 pounds with a 3-2 record, and freshman Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) at 184 pounds with a 3-2 record.
Sophomore Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) finished seventh in the 149-pound weight class with a 3-2 record.
The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Alliance to take on Mount Union in their second OAC dual meet.
