Three place 6th to lead Wrestling at NCAA III Midwest Regional Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Three Ohio Northern wrestlers placed sixth in their respective weight classes at the two-day NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) and freshmen Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) and Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) placed 6th in the 157, 125 and 285 weight classes, respectively.
The top three placers in each of the 10 weight classes receive a bid to the NCAA III Championships March 10-11 at LaCrosse, Wis.
All three men needed three victories to place third and all three got victories in their first match.
Nelson went 3-3 in the tournament with two pins and a decision with a pair of pins at 157 pounds. He finishes 23-12 on the season.
Transue started the day with a second period pin, but dropped a pair of tight 2-point losses to finish his rookie season with a 19-18 record. He was 2-3 at the tournament after receiving a first round bye on Friday morning.
Barcaskey was 3-1 at heavyweight and led the team with a 32-8 record.
He won by tech fall 18-3 in his first match on Saturday morning, but medical defaulted out of the tournament after suffering an injury in his victory.
The Polar Bears finished 11th of 16 teams with 31.5 points in the team standings.
