Kwiat posts pair of tech falls as No. 26 Wresling defeats DI foe Davidson, falls to ACC's North Carolina State

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Kyle Kwiat posted a pair of tech falls to lead No. 26-ranked Ohio Northern to a 20-18 victory over NCAA Division I foe Davidson and a 32-11  loss to North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sunday.

The Polar Bears wrap up their regular season with a 16-4 overall record.

NC State improves to 4-5 on the year, while host Davidson falls to 6-12.

In the win over the Wildcats, sophomore Cody Lovejoy won 7-2 at heavyweight to give ONU the victory.

Trailing 18-17 entering the final match, Lovejoy jumped to 6-0 lead and held on for the decision and improves to 28-10 on the year.

Junior Jerry Pasquale won by forfeit at 125 pounds to give ONU a quick 6-0 lead but Davidson rallied for three straight wins to go up 12-6.

Sophomore Kyle Brezovec and freshman Tyler Gargano then won by decision at 157 and 165, respectively, to tie the match at 12-12.

Brezovec is now 11-12 on the year and Gargano is now 20-13 on the season.

Kwiat then posted his NCAA-leading 22nd tech fall, winning at 174 pounds 17-0 in just 2:54, to put ONU up 17-12.

NC State and Davidson will wrap up the afternoon with a dual meet at 4 pm.

Against NC State, junior Michael Pawlitz and Kwiat each posted wins to lead Ohio Northern.

Pawlitz posted a first period pin in 1:38 at 197 pounds to improve to 26-7 with 14 pins on the season.

Kwiat, the No. 1-ranked defending NCAA III national champion got a first period tech fall, winning 16-0 in 2:35 at 174 pounds.

Kwiat is now 36-3 on the season.

The Polar Bears will return to action on March 2 when they host the first-ever NCAA III Mideast Regional Tournament at the ONU Sports Center.
