Women's Lacrosse sets program record for victories, clinches winning season with 21-16 victory over Baldwin Wallace

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team won its school-record ninth game of the season with an impressive 21-16 victory over Baldwin Wallace on a warm and windy Wednesday evening.

The Game
- The Polar Bears broke open a 13-13 tie entering the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run over the first 7:00 of the period to lead 18-13.
- Sophomore Elena Martin (Youngstown/Canfield) had six points on four goals and two assists and sophomore Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) had four goals and an assist for five points to lead ONU.
- Deanna Loukas led BW with five goals.
- Northern raced to a quick 7-3 lead in the first 12:13 of the contest.
- BW climbed back within 10-8 by halftime and led 12-10 with 6:10 left in the third quarter.
- Ohio Northern battled back and evened the game at 13-all entering the fourth period.
- Freshman Kassidy Elzey (Miamisburg) started ONU's decisive run with an unassisted goal 1:33 into the final period.
- The Polar Bears then rattled off four consecutive man-up goals to extend the lead to 18-13 with 8:00 left in the game.
- BW scored twice to get within 18-15 with 6:07 left.
- Hoersten and fifth-year senior Elizabeth Graham (Dayton/Carroll) would stem the tide with back-to-back goals and regain Northern's lead at 20-15 with 3:16 left in the game.
- BWU out-shot ONU 40-32.
Notables
- Ohio Northern clinched its fourth consecutive OAC Tournament appearance with the victory.
- Junior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 155 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 91 assists and is seventh with 64 career goals.
- Graham leads the team with 42 goals and sophomore Rylie Kocik (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the team with 57 points on 38 goals and 19 assists.
- Burden has a team-best 34 assists to go with 52 points.
- Senior Chloe Millican (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) is ONU's all-time career wins leader with 20.
- Ohio Northern has now scored 10 or more goals in 14 of its 15 games this season.
- Northern has now won four of the last five meetings with Baldwin Wallace and has climbed to within 5-4 in the all-time series.
- Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her first season at Ohio Northern and has a 9-6 record, a winning percentage of .600.
