Five named Academic All-OAC in Women's Lacrosse for 2018

ADA — Five Ohio Northern student/athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women's lacrosse for the 2018 season.
Seniors Chelsea Cousins (Lewis Center/Olentangy) and Shannen Larsen Van Alstine (Neenah, Wis.) and sophomores Eli Carter (Lebanon), Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve Academy) and Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) all received the honor.
The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
Cousins is a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree and is a midfielder/defender majoring in civil engineering.
She has started 47 games during her three seasons as a Polar Bear and ended her career ranked second all-time in ONU history with 70 caused turnovers and third all-time with 112 ground balls.
Larsen Van Alstine is a three-year starter in goal for the Polar Bears and was also named Honorable Mention All-Conference this season.
This season, she posted six victories, 97 saves and a 16.46 GAA.
She ends her career at ONU as the school's all-time leader with 15 victories, 345 saves and 1,854 minutes played.
Carter is a two-year starter at midfield and is an athletic training major.
She scored eight goals with 11 points this season.
Carter ranks seventh all-time in ONU history with 23 career goals and 27 career points.
McArn has started all 17 games when healthy in her two-year career as a defender and midfielder and is majoring in pharmacy.
This season, she led ONU with 48 draw controls, was third on the team with 45 ground balls and was fifth with 15 goals and 22 caused turnovers in 16 games.
She ranks among ONU's all-time career leaders in goals (15), draw controls (48), ground balls (48) and caused turnovers (23).
Shipman is also a two-year starter at multiple positions, playing both defense and attack, and is majoring in exercise physiology.
This season, she ranked among the team leaders in goals (19), assists (15), points (34), ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (28).
Shipman is ONU's all-time career leader with 23 assists, 68 points and 18 free position goals.
She ranks among ONU's all-time career leaders with 45 goals, eight hat tricks, 30 draw controls, 82 ground balls and 53 caused turnovers in 32 games.
The Polar Bears went 6-10 overall and were sixth in the OAC with a 3-5 league record in 2018 under third-year head coach Beth Hemminger.
