WESTERVILLE — Sophomore Ann McArn (Bay Village/Western Reserve Academy) and freshman Sabra Woodruff (Beavercreek) each recorded hat tricks as the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 20-15 decision at Otterbein.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 8-8, 4-3.
After sophomore Besty Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) found fellow sophomore Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) for a goal to cut the deficit to 7-5 in the first half, Otterbein would score three straight goals to take a 10-5 lead.
Naugle responded with a goal at the 4-minute mark of the first half to pull Northern within 10-6 at the intermission.
Otterbein would open the second half scoring the first four goals of the half to push the lead to 14-6, before the ONU offense caught fire and scored five of the next six goals to cut the lead to 15-11.
During that stretch, freshman Sydney Skelding (Dublin, Calif.) and McArn each tallied two goals and Skelding found sophomore Hailey Green (South Lyon, Mich.) for a goal.
The Cardinals would stretch the lead to 19-12 late in the second half, before Northern was able to score three of the games final four goals. The Polar Bears comeback bid fell short as OU went on to win 20-15.
Woodruff and senior Chelsea Cousins (Lewis Center/Olentangy) each picked up four ground balls to lead the way for ONU in the contest.
Northern returns to action Saturday afternoon its in season finale as it hosts Capital at Dial-Roberson Stadium at 1 p.m.
