Skelding, Lohman post Hat Tricks to lead Women's Lacrosse in 18-12 loss to Carthage (Wis.)

SEWANEE, Tenn. — Freshman Sydney Skelding (Dublin, Calif.) and sophomore Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) each had hat tricks to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in an 18-12 loss to Carthage (Wis.) on Monday afternoon at Sewanee (Tenn.) University's Puett Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Lady Reds improve to 4-0.
Skelding had four goals, two assists and six points and Lohman had three goals for ONU.
In all, six different Polar Bears scored goals in the contest.
Rachel Mussell led CC with six goals, four assists and 10 points.
Sophomore Maggie Fuller (Naples, Fla.) got ONU on the board with a goal just 1:14 into the contest, but the Lady Reds would score the next three before sophomore Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa. / Moon Area) would score at the 20:56 mark to make it 3-2.
Freshman Sabra Woodruff (Beavercreek) would score off an assist from Skelding with 3:38 left before halftime to close the ONU deficit to 8-6.
Carthage led 9-6 at halftime and the Lady Reds would score five of the first goals of the second half to extend their lead to 14-7 with 21:24 left in the game.
ONU out-shot CC 38-33 and won the ground ball battle by a 33-30 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 pm match at Sewanee (Tenn.)
