Betsy Naugle's hat trick leads Women's Lacrosse in 12-8 loss to Muskingum

ADA — Freshman Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) picked up a hat trick with a 3-goal performance to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team in a 12-8 loss to Muskingum on Saturday at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 2-9 overall and are 1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Muskies improve to 6-7, 2-2.
Muskingum struck quickly, scoring the first four goals of the game and led 4-0 10:16 into the contest.
But Ohio Northern rallied with goals by Naugle, freshman Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) and senior Kayla Reuss (Cincinnati/Seton) to pull within 4-3 at the 12:34 mark of the first half.
Sophomore Alexis Cailor (Boardman) scored off an assist from Reuss with 25 seconds left in the half to trim the MU lead to 6-4 at intermission.
After the Muskies went up 8-4 early in the second half, ONU rallied by scoring four of the game's next five goals.
Shipman scored on a free position shot with 10:27 left in the game to pull the hosts within 9-8.
But MU would pull away by scoring the final three goals of the game to hang on for the 12-8 victory.
ONU out-shot MU 31-30 and had 29 ground balls to 20 for the visitors.
The Polar Bears will take to the road on Wednesday night with a 7 pm game at Heidelberg.
