Freshman Katie McCourt leads Women's Lacrosse in 16-6 victory over Wilmington

ADA — Freshman Katie McCourt (Fairview Park/Magnificat) scored four goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team to a road victory over Wilmington on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 1-9, 0-3.
McCourt was a perfect 4-for-4 during the contest as all four of her shots found the back of the net.
Freshmen Elizabeth Carter (Lebanon) and Rachel Shipman (Noblesville, Ind.) each recorded Hat Tricks while, freshman Jacqui Lohman (Liberty Township/Lakota East) added two goals and two assists for Northern.
Junior Shannen Larsen Van Alstine (Neenah, Wis.) earned the victory in the goal for ONU as she recorded two saves.
Northern got out to a quick start as they recorded the games first five goals to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
In that span, Shipman recorded two goals, while McCourt and Carter scored their first goals of the game.
After Wilmington answered with two goals, back-to-back goals by McCourt and a goal by senior Kayla Reuss (Cincinnati/Seton) closed out the first half to give ONU a 8-2 lead heading into the intermission.
The Polar Bears would open the second half quickly as Lohman scored her first goal of the evening just 48 second into the second half to push the lead to 9-2.
From there Carter scored back-to-back goals before freshman Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) found the back of the net two times to give Northern a comfortable 13-2 lead with 19:52 remaining in the contest.
Wilmington would score the next two goals of the contest before Lohman answered with a goal at the 13:02 mark to give Northern a 14-4 lead.
The Quakers scored two more goals before McCourt and freshman Hailey Green (South Lyon, Mich.) closed out the contest with back-to-back goals to give Northern the 16-6 victory.
Northern won the draw control battle by a 15-9 margin.
The Polar Bears return to action Saturday, Apr. 8 as they host Muskingum at Dial-Roberson Stadium on senior day for a 1 pm start.
