Women's Lacrosse opens 2017 campaign with 10-4 victory over Franciscan

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team opened its 2017 season with a solid 10-4 victory over Franciscan Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (1-0 overall) got four goals from freshman Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and three goals each from sophomore Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.) and freshman Elizabeth Carter (Lebanon).
Storr and Carter also added assists to give all three players four points on the day.
The Barons fall to 0-1.
Ohio Northern scored the first four goals of the game and led 9-1 with 6:21 gone in the second half.
Storr had her 11th hat trick in only 17 career games just 14 minutes into the contest.
She scored her first goal with 3:59 gone in the game to put ONU up 1-0.
Carter added her first collegiate goal 1:43 later and Storr made it 3-0 with 23:11 left in the first half.
Naugle got her first career goal with 10:25 elapsed in the game to make it 4-0.
After Franciscan scored to pull within 5-1, Naugle tallied three straight goals to give ONU a commanding 8-1 lead.
She scored at the 6:29 mark of the first half to give ONU a 6-1 lead at intermission.
Naugle then scored at the 26:36 and 24:51 marks to make it 8-1 and Carter got her second goal with 23:39 left to play to make it 9-1.
Ohio Northern out-shot Franciscan 28-19, led the ground ball battle by a slim 32-31 margin and were a stellar 20-of-26 in clearing attempts.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday with a 6 pm contest against Wooster.
