ADA — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team went toe-to-toe with Keuka (N.Y.) before falling late 11-10 on Sunday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 1-2, while the Wolfpack improves to 1-1.
Ohio Northern got two goals each from freshman Madeline Storr, freshman Alexandra Miller, freshman Maggie Fuller and sophomore Chelsea Cousins.
Keuka, who is the three-time defending champion of the North East Athletic Conference, got three goals each from Sydney Forshay and Samantha Staino.
Kayla Reuss scored with 10:01 left in the game to put the Polar Bears on top 9-8.
But the Wolfpack scored just 35 seconds later to tie it at 9-all and got the go-ahead goal just 47 seconds after that to take a 10-9 lead with 8:43 left in the game.
Fuller appeared to tie the game at 10-all with a goal with 3:05 left to play, but was given a yellow card and the goal was nullified due to a dangerous follow through foul.
Keuka then went down and scored with 2:11 to play to go up 11-9.
Cousins scored with 1:31 on a free position shot to bring ONU within 11-10, but the Wolfpack won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock to hang on for the win.
Ohio Northern out-shot Keuka 25-23 and won 15 draw controls to eight for KC.
Storr finished the game with two goals, seven shots (five on goal) and nine draw controls for ONU.
Keuka scored three times in the first 7:43 to take a quick 3-0 lead, but the Polar Bears battled back to within 4-3 before trailing 5-3 at halftime.
Fuller scored twice in the first 1:40 of the second half to tie the match at 5-all and it was close the rest of the way.
