Women's Golf tied for sixth after Day 1 of 2018 OAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE — The Ohio Northern women's golf team is sixth of eight teams after the first day of the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at River Greens Golf Course.
The Polar Bears (24-14 overall) carded a 354 in the first round, led by freshman Lydia Cranmer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Ladywood) with a 10-over par 83.
Cranmer is tied for second out of 40 golfers on the par 73 course. The teams played the Pines and Greens nines on the 27-hole course.
Mount Union and John Carroll are tied for first in the tightly contested team standings with 343s. Otterbein is third with a 348, Capital is fourth with a 352 and Marietta is fifth with a 353.
In all, only nine shots separates the top six teams after 18 of the 54 holes to be played.
Junior Caitlin Silva (Hilliard/Bradley) is tied for 17th with an 89, junior Suzanne Short (Findlay) and senior Raven Venegas (Lima/Shawnee) are tied for 23rd with 91s and sophomore Taylor Daniel (Columbia City, Ind.) 36th with a 100.
The top 14 individuals and ties at the end of Sunday's final round earn All-Conference accolades.
Marietta's Jackie Cunningham holds a nine stroke lead over Cranmer and two others for Medalist honors with a 1-over par 74.
The second round will start on Saturday at 10 am on the Pines and River nines and the final round will start Sunday at 10 am on the greens and river nines.
